Along Kerodi Road in Sakleshpur, Anil Kuchally and family care for approximately 26 acres at 3,700–3,800 feet. The fourth-generation estate is shaped by rain, shade, mixed cultivation and rich wildlife.

The land

Many crops. Many layers. One working estate.

Kuchally’s agricultural roots reach back more than 150 years through the family’s cultivation of cardamom. Coffee came later and is now part of a layered farm where pepper, cardamom, fruit trees and coffee grow within a forest-influenced Western Ghats ecosystem.

Traditional knowledge now meets scientific farm management, controlled processing, mechanisation and newer agricultural technologies. The aim is practical: healthier fields, repeatable quality and more useful direct relationships with roasters and buyers.

Arabica and Robusta at the core.

Chandragiri and Brazilian Catuaí sit within the Arabica programme. Robusta anchors mature blocks, while a published Excelsa lot adds a less-common chapter to the estate record.

Arabica grows across shaded and open parcels. Depending on the lot and process, the cup may move through chocolate, caramel, citrus and floral sweetness.

Robusta forms a long-standing part of Kuchally’s landscape, including mature shade-rich blocks and carefully processed specialty lots.

Alongside the estate’s core Arabica and Robusta programme, Kuchally’s current published record includes a washed Excelsa from the 2025–26 harvest.

Variety information reflects the grower’s records and knowledge; it has not been independently genetically verified.

The estate in motion

Tradition, tested against each season.

Kuchally is investing in mechanised farming, improved estate management and carefully controlled processing. Washed, natural, honey and experimental fermentations give the team different ways to pursue cup quality without losing sight of the land beneath it.

Agricultural practices

Daily work, with a longer view.

Intercropping

Coffee is grown with pepper, cardamom and fruit trees, supporting soil fertility and a more diverse farm economy.

Mixed cultivation

Different crops share the landscape, reducing monoculture and single-crop risk while supporting year-round farm activity.

Composting

Organic material from the estate is composted and returned to the soil as a natural input.

Selective hand-picking

Only ripe cherries are picked by hand over multiple passes during harvest, supporting cup quality.

Certification

Rainforest Alliance

Kuchally Coffee Estate is certified to the Rainforest Alliance standard for sustainable farming.

Certification applies at farm level. Whether a lot or shipment may be represented as certified depends on documented chain of custody through milling, warehousing and export. Confirm the applicable scope and claim permissions with Anil before making downstream certification claims.

The estate’s mapped farm boundaries were assessed with Whisp satellite analysis against the EU Regulation 2023/1115 deforestation cut-off of 31 December 2020. The published record says this screening is refreshed every six months. Each source record carries a passed screen; the detail pages also retain the small post-cut-off signals reported for Maglu and Old Block Robusta so buyers can review the evidence in context.
